Mendel Kaelen (1986) is a sound artist based in the Netherlands. Central are experiments with fieldrecordings and electronic manipulation of acoustic sound sources. His work is inspired by a deep love for the natural world and an immersement in various disciplines related to understanding consciousness.
Since 2007 he has composed experimental sound pieces for theatre and developed a serie of sound installations, most of them in collaboration with multidisciplinary art director Saskia Jeulink. Together with Machinst he won the x-vektor price for underground avantgarde talent in 2009. After that, in 2010, he released his first full lenght album ''Remembering What Was Forgotten''. Since 2011 he works together with video artist Jesus Olmo to create non-narritive audiovisual art of which short films are presented online regulary. A selection of their work is presented here on Streaming Festival 2011. They are now working on the 90-minute piece ''Beach Fatigue'', expected to see the daylight in 2012. A new album is expected early 2012.
