Morehshin Allahyari- Bio
Morehshin Allahyari is a new media artist and an art activist. She was born and raised in Iran and moved to the United States in 2007. She has a BA in Media Studies from Tehran University, an MA in Digital Media Studies from the University of Denver and currently is an M.F.A candidate in New Media Art at the University of North Texas.
Her creative and research interest include the social, political and cultural issues of Iran (specifically body, self-censorship, distance, self-exile), creative writing, art activism, media art, and collaborative art.
Morehshin has been part of exhibitions, festivals, and conferences in Tehran, Denver, Dallas, Chicago, Berlin (The 7th Berlin International Directors Lounge), Taubman Museum of Art, San Francisco, Denton (University of North Texas), Arad Art Museum, New York (CAA 2011), Ohio (Athens International Film and Video festival), New Mexico (Currents 2011) , Sao Paulo, Sigtuna (Sweden), and Portland (Portland State University).
Since she has moved to the U.S, she has been working on intercultural projects, concerning her daily life as an Iranian in the United States. Morehshin is one of the co- founders and artists of "Dialogue: presented by IRUS art"- (an intercultural collaborative art show between artists in Iran and the United States/ http://www.irusart.org), and the co- founder of Your Night/My Day project.
