Henry Gwiazda - On the roof

4:16, 2008, Experimental

My work is about the choreography of reality. It"s about the way everything moves and is interconnected to create beauty. It shows that each motion, whether it is made by human, animal, object, light or sound, is connected and extended by other motions to compose a phrase, a sentence of great artistic interest.

Interview

Who is Henry Gwiazda?
New media artist/composer/sound artist

Your film is about?
How movement defines life.

How did you start with film? And do you have an educational background in art or film?
A natural extension of my sound work

Could you explain how you work, what themes or concepts and what is important to you?
The understanding of reality is important, time and movement
I create scenes/scripts then work with digital software to realize the scenes. I then render and add sound/music according to the script.

Where do you get your ideas or influences from?
Reality, books

How does the title relate to the work, and how do you find a fitting title?
I think for quite a while about a name. I find that time helps me decide if it works as a title.

How does content relate to the form of your work?
My multimedia choreography is the content of my work. The form focusses or groups the content toward a larger purpose. For example both claudia and paul 2:13 a.m. And on the roof are part of a larger work called claudia and paul claudia and paul claudia and paul claudia and paul which consists of 11 works all taking place in the same virtual city with the same two characters In these works each scene is about 30 sec. Apart which then are combined in the final scene. The point is not only to show the choreography but to group the choreography of a specific time to discover what it reveals about our movements. The entire work is available on innnova recordings.

How important is sound in film, and if you use sounds, do you create your own or use existing?
Sound/music is an important aspect of the choreography. However, because I love sound, when it occurs nothing else is happening. Also, it is used sparingly and with great care.

How do you finance your projects (by yourself, sponsors or subsidy)?
Myself

Nowadays everyone with the right equipment can create videoart, good, bad or ugly?
Theoretically

What possibilities of the web are yet to be explored? Which dangers do you see ahead?
I’d like to see larger works available with quicker uploads.

Video broadcasting platforms on the internet, why or why not?
They are the future of art communication.

In what category would you place your work; cinema or art. And is there a difference between those?
Art
Most film/cinema is really theatre recorded on film or video. For me, footage needs to be processed in some way.

How important is the reaction to your film by the audience?
I’d like people to get something from my work.

What is your next project about?
It’s about how we think.
