John Blake - Tonge compilation

40:00, 1975, Experimental

‘Between 1969 and ± 1975, I made several works utilising 16mm film, which I conceived as ‘installations’ -although just then that term was not current*- as they were works ‘to occupy’ given spaces for certain limited periods of time.

Just as photography was a projection in space to use -photographiy had become specifically instrumental in my thoughts ± 1966- so film began to develop in tandem, but with measured duration included: an event or ‘occupation’ of time ( as well as space ). There developed a wilful interest in ‘filling time’ with actions or objects that moved.

This compilation contains 5 of those experiments. Though they date back many years, they remain un-screened in continental Europe (apart from one or 2 occasions, years back)
