Who is Silvia de Gennaro?
She’s an Italian artist, currently focusing on digital art, video art and multimedia.

Your film is about?
My film is about life’s bitterness which not always meets our expectations.

How did you start with film? And do you have an educational background in art or film?
For a long time I dedicated myself to painting and writing alternately, until I discovered that the union of the two things was the right way to express myself at the best. So I started to make videos and shorts. I have an artistic diploma, but regarding movies I’m autodidact.

Could you explain how you work, what themes or concepts and what is important to you?
The issues I like to represent are philosophical, spiritual and sociological, lightened by a good dose of irony.

Where do you get your ideas or influences from?
My workflow is’nt always the same. Often I get the idea for a film from a picture, from something I‘ve heard or saw, or from moments I’ve experienced firsthand. I seek insights and stylistic inspiration from paintings, mythology and everyday news.

How does the title relate to the work, and how do you find a fitting title?
When I find a fitting title it means I’m in the right direction and that the film will have its raison d’etre. If I can’t think about a good title, it means there’s something wrong with the idea.

How does content relate to the form of your work?
The content affects the form of my work. My films all have a common style, even though each has a different story.

How important is sound in film, and if you use sounds, do you create your own or use existing?
Sound is what give life to a film, that creates the magic. Sometimes I create the sound, sometimes I use existing ones.

How do you finance your projects (by yourself, sponsors or subsidy)?
I finance them by myself.

Nowadays everyone with the right equipment can create videoart, good, bad or ugly?
In addition to the right equipment, you also need to have the right ideas.

Video broadcasting platforms on the internet, why or why not?
Why not

In what category would you place your work; cinema or art. And is there a difference between those?
I don’t think there are any differences between cinema and art. My works participated both in art and cinema festivals.

How important is the reaction to your film by the audience?
It’s very important. It gives me the final meaning of my work. Once the creative side is satisfied, you need to satisfy the communication side.

What is your next project about?
I’d like to try making an artistic documentary, a form of art that I don’t have experienced yet.
